What is a CubeSat?
A CubeSat is a type of minisatellite based on a form factor consisting of 10 cm (3.9 in) cubes. CubeSats weigh no more than 2 kg (4.4 lb) per unit and often use commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components for their electronics and structure.
CubeSats are placed into orbit by deployers on the International Space Station or launched as secondary payloads on a launch vehicle.
By August 2021, more than 1,600 CubeSats had been launched.
What is Earth Rising? And what kind of video game is that?
Earth Rising is a video game where you build and assemble panels for a CubeSat and then assemble the CubeSat and launch it into space.
After we get the design for assembling the CubeSat, we need to solder the corresponding elements and stack them in a certain way inside the Cube frame and put them on the conveyor belt that drives the CubeSat into the rocket that we send into space.
Only certain chips and elements can be placed on each panel because each one has a different option, such as: batteries that regulate battery consumption, some read temperature data and the like.
Some chips that are placed on the board must be soldered, and for this a futuristic soldering iron is used, which is used to properly stack the chips.
Also in the game is a 3D printer on which we can print the boards and frame of the CubeSat.
Why a “how to” build CubeSat video game?
Good question!
The development of the video game “Earth Rising”, in which you learn and assemble a CubeSat, was co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund, through the project “Learn through play”, Applicant of the Association Igra znjana, with partners FERIT, HZTK, ALGEBRA, GRF, MIPRO and A3. The entire project takes place as part of the call “Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to popularize STEM.”
As the “Knowledge Game” association itself deals with learning through play, and the partners are oriented towards technology and space technologies, this is the best combination of all interests.
The developer of the video game is the PISMO GAMES d.o.o. studio.
